The N2 Overhaul Completion Club
Appeal to raise £100,000 to complete the funding of the overhaul of the Society’s Gresley class N2 GNR No. 1744.
In late 2024 we launched The N2 Overhaul Completion Club to raise £100,000 to complete the work necessary to get No. 1744 back into traffic on the North Norfolk Railway. We are delighted to report that that our members’ generosity has been phenomenal and that we are 60% of the way towards achieving our target.
No. 1744 re-entered traffic on the North Norfolk Railway on 17 July 2026 – however, we still have £40,000 of our £100,000 target for The N2 Overhaul Completion Club to raise to fund the overhaul.
Special benefits for those supporting the club include:
– Certificate signed by our President and Chairman
– One year’s free membership of The Gresley Society Trust
– Exclusive opportunity to visit No. 1744 under overhaul at the NNR
– Opportunity to buy a ticket (seat already reserved) on one of the first trains hauled by No. 1744
– Exclusive Limited Edition print (100) of No. 1744 in GNR livery by Matthew Cousins (GRA)
No 1744 is the oldest Gresley locomotive still in existence and belongs to all of us. She may have missed out on her centenary year, but she re-entered traffic as part of our celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley in 2026.
Please help if you can by joining The N2 Overhaul Completion Club and together let’s keep our locomotive on the rails where she belongs – thank you!
Let’s get No. 1744 in steam by 2026
