Wabtec’s Doncaster site, with its long and proud history, is scheduled to close at the end of this year. Before this chapter comes to an end, we want to take the opportunity to properly recognise and celebrate the heritage, achievements and people that have made the site so special over the years.
With the support of the City of Doncaster council and other groups including the Gresley Society, on Saturday the 20 June, Wabtec will be hosting a Doncaster Site Celebration Event, bringing everyone together to honour its historic significance and lasting contribution to the railway industry.
The day will be a celebration of our shared history and will feature:
- Locomotive displays – including No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley in steam, marking its namesake’s 150th anniversary, and No. 60103 Flying Scotsman, displayed outside the building where they were originally built!
- Shunting demonstrations
- A museum‑style display showcasing historic memorabilia, artefacts and images from the site’s rich heritage.
- Live entertainment
- Food and refreshments
This event is about marking the legacy of Doncaster with pride, reflecting on what has been achieved here over many years, and spending time together in a meaningful and memorable way.
