Philip Benham MBE FCILT, Chairman of The Gresley Society Trust, returns for his third presentation to the Stephenson Locomotive Society. 2026 is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley, and the Trust has planned a series of events during the year to mark his birth, under the heading ‘Gresley 150’. His latest presentation looks at early ideas for streamlined trains, the commercial rationale, and the impact of ‘The Flying Hamburger’, before covering the creation of the class A4s and the LNER’s streamlined trains. Then it’s over to the LMS for the story of ‘The Coronation Scot’.
