In late 2024 we launched The N2 Overhaul Completion Club to raise £100,000 to complete the work necessary to get No. 1744 back into traffic on the North Norfolk Railway. We are delighted to report that that our members’ generosity has been phenomenal and that we are almost a third of the way towards achieving our target.

No. 1744 has been moved from Northern Steam Engineering to the North Norfolk Railway for the completion of the remaining work and that this is now well underway, with a final steam test expected to take place imminently. They are now working through the remaining items required to complete the engineering elements of the overhaul.

However, we still have £70,000 of our £100,000 target for The N2 Overhaul Completion Club to raise by the end of 2025 in order to secure No. 1744’s future and return her to traffic.

No 1744 is the oldest Gresley locomotive still in existence and belongs to all of us.  She may have missed out on her centenary year, however, with your help at last she will steam again this year and be the centrepiece of our activities to celebrate the 150^th anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley in 2026.
