N2 UPDATE 4 NOV 2019.
After stripping of the loco at Weybourne the tender bidders and the boiler inspector were able to make detailed inspections. After reviewing the separate tenders for mechanical and boiler overhauls we decided to let both contracts to Northern Steam at Stockton on Tees. The loco arrived on Teeside in mid-August and labelling/stripping to component parts commenced immediately. First task was to release the wheelsets for transport to the South Devon Railway for the fitting of the new tyres which are already in stock. Full NDT is being undertaken to quantify the cracked spoke problems and proposed method of repair. At Stockton a site meeting is being held in mid-November with our Consulting Engineer, Insurance Co Boiler Inspector and Northern Steam to agree the required programme of boiler repairs.
